The date was September 19, 2012, and I was turning 40. In my mind, I felt great and excited about the future. There was one hang up, however. My beautiful spritely self was trapped in an overweight and sick body. At only 5'1" tall, I was 167 pounds, a BMI of 30, and blood pressure of 140/90. During a trip to the doctor in the days that followed, I got the shake-up of my life. My doctor looked me squarely in the face, lips dripping with concern and revulsion, and said, "You are obese." I was angry, and had finally had enough. With the help of my wonderful ZUMBA! Instructor, Mrs. Crystal Sylvester, and a few changes to my diet, I have managed to lose 34 pounds, two dress sizes, and watched my blood pressure drop to 117/70! I have not been in a size 8 dress and seen blood pressure numbers like that since I had my first child almost 13 years ago. I am still in disbelief that I can make a testament like this. I am proud of myself for sticking with it and so grateful to Crystal and all of my ZUMBA! girls that continuously encourage me and lift me up. I could not have done it and cannot keep it up without you

What can I say? I started taking this Zumba class in September 2013. I was nervous about whether I could do it! I can't really dance, although I do have SOME rhythm. Can I do it? Will I be comfortable around people I don't know? Will they judge me? The list goes on and on! I decided to give it a try and I loved the class, the women, and the amazing affirmations of "You Can Do It!!" I kept coming back... After a health issue this past summer and being unable to exercise, I gained 30 pounds and was labeled "obese" by my doctor! I wanted to go back...I HAD TO GO BACK!!"
"Our incredible instructor, Crystal, works us all out...mind, body, and spirit! She is a wonderful spirit and an inspiration. She reminds us that YES...we are mothers, employees, wives, and friends... But we are also women! Beautiful, sexy women with so much to offer! We need to take care of OURSELVES!!! You will never meet a more beautiful, loving, supportive, encouraging, and compassionate woman/instructor. Best believe though, that you will never meet a more energetic, lively, courageous, motivated, and FUN woman whose job it is to help us achieve our goals...A job she does not take lightly! I AM TEAM CRYSTAL!!
I started going to Crystal after moving from Alexandria to Bowie after a very painful divorce. I was already doing Zumba in Alexandria but I saw an ad on the Zumba website for classes at Bowie Community Center. I clicked on the site and saw Crystal and her colorful outfit and her profile just had me hooked. As an overweight person I was not sure how I would fit in this class - so I decided to email Crystal to see how she would react. I received an immediate response from her - she told me to come and I would enjoy it. The first day I walked in the class she ran over and hugged me and that made me feel right at home. I have been now attending class for the past 3 months and have lost almost 30 pounds. There are times when I just cannot wait to get to her class because I know that no matter what kind of day I had at work - I am going to be able to sweat it out and have some fun at her class. She has been a real blessing in my life - helping me shed pounds, gain muscle and endurance. When I leave her class I am soaking wet with sweat and feeling great!!. I would name her the best that PG County has to offer.
